Pear shape is also known as teardrop shape. As the name states clearly, the shape is rounded from one end and pointed from the other. Diamonds are cut this way to accentuate the length of the finger. The pear shape diamonds usually suit well with slender and longer fingers. No matter which shape and style you choose for the diamond, make sure it is a good quality diamond having perfect clarity, color and cut. Any metal such as gold, platinum, silver or cheaper metals can be employed to set the diamond onto the ring.

Different pear shape ratios for diamond rings:
Pear shape can be elongated and slimmer or shorter and fatter. Slimmer shapes are good for making the fingers look longer. Ideal pear shapes have the length to width ratios between 1.45 and 1.75. If you have very skinny fingers 0.20 or 0.25 carat diamonds would be good for you having 4.0×2.0 mm and 4.5×2.5 mm width respectively. As the finger size increases, an increase in carat weight is recommended.

Different settings for pear shaped diamond rings:
Though almost every ring setting can be employed for pear shaped diamonds, some of them are really popular for this shape explicitly. One of them is Tiffany setting where four or six prongs hold the rounded edge of the pear. This highlights the shape of the diamond and makes it appear bigger. Other settings can be side-stone setting and multiple-stone settings. Pave setting is used in multiple stone settings, while in side-stone setting the pear shaped diamond is accentuated with other stones like sapphires and rubies.
